Insha'Allah, this year, the first day of Eid ul-Adha will be on Monday 17th June 2024 (depending on the moon sighting). With only a month to go, let's start planning!

Here we explain every feature of our Qurbani offer, including where we work, how we choose our locations and animals, who we distribute the meat to and what to expect! Find out more about how to maximise the rewards of this joyous occasion.

And if you’re not sure whether you need to offer a Qurbani this year, please read our detailed Guide on Qurbani with Muslim Futures.

Qurbani (or Udhiyyah in Arabic) literally means sacrifice. Each year during the Islamic month of Dhul- Hijjah, Muslims around the world slaughter an animal – either a goat, sheep, cow, or camel – to reflect the Prophet Ibrahim, alayhi as’salaam’s willingness to sacrifice his son Ismail, for the sake of Allah subhanahu wa ta'āla.

The essence of Qurbani is always our intention. Our Qurbani symbolises our surrender to Allah, subhanahu wa ta'āla, so we should always choose a worthy sacrifice according to our means;

It is neither their meat, nor their blood that will reach Allah; but what reaches Him is piety from you   (Quran 22:37)

After the animal has been sacrificed, the meat is then distributed to those most in need, enabling the world’s most vulnerable and disadvantaged communities to enjoy Eid-ul-Adha, often the only time many families eat meat in the entire year.

Al'hamdu'lillah, Muslim Futures have been distributing your sacrifices for over 10 years. In 2024, you can order your Qurbani in any one of 7 locations across Asia, Africa and the Middle East; Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Palestine, Syria, Malawi and Yemen. In these countries we have pre-ordered animals, with an indicative quota for each location, so we recommend that you order your Qurbani as early as possible to avoid disappointment.

If you prefer to offer your Qurbani in another country, no problem! We can also purchase animals in Albania, Syria and Iraq, and most countries across Africa, including Somalia, Gambia, Mali, Rwanda and Ethiopia. Just let us know the country and the quantity you require!

If you can’t decide where to give your Qurbani - don’t worry! Simply select according to your budget and Muslim Futures will allocate your Qurbani to the most appropriate location!

You can offer your Qurbani order right up until Maghrib on the third day of Eid, which is the 12th Dhul-Hijjah. This is because Muslim Futures has already sacrificed the animals in time for Eid distribution, with the intention that some donors will give their money on the third day.

Choosing the animals is the easy part!

Islam lays down clearly which animals are acceptable, and what constitutes a valid sacrifice. A healthy goat or a sheep are both acceptable 'small' animals and can be considered as a single 'share', sufficient for the sacrifice on behalf of 1 person. A cow (or buffalo) or camel are acceptable 'large' animals that, when sacrificed, provide seven 'shares'. These animals provide enough meat for the Qurbani of 7 people. Thus a single person can offer a small animal on behalf of themselves, or a single 'share' of a larger animal.

The rulings and observations on the age, condition and eligibility of an animal suitable for Qurbani are detailed and specific. To find out more, we have produced a Guide on Qurbani with Muslim Futures, which you can download here.

  • Our animals are NOT stunned before slaughter. EVER. The only thing stunning about Qurbani should be the smiles of those receiving your kindness!
  • All of our Qurbani animals are bought and sacrificed locally within the community.
  • We choose the best value animal for each location, whether that is a cow, a sheep, or a goat.
  • We always distribute fresh meat on Eid, NEVER tinned or frozen meat, as fresh meat is healthier and tastier.
  • We strive to ensure our brothers and sisters enjoy a meal as delicious as we would prepare for our own families, ensuring Eid is truly a feast and a celebration for them.
  • We are committed to tackling the root causes of poverty worldwide and that means supporting local farmers at every opportunity.

The countries are more difficult to decide, as we cannot support every needy community in every deserving country each year! Al'hamdu'lillah, we are one of many organisations carrying out this noble and rewarding act each year and as such, we partner and work with many well-know, hugely experienced and very capable individuals and teams who carry out Qurbani on your behalf. So you can be assured that your Qurbani is in great hands. In line with our Supporter Promise, we try to ensure that our country selection criteria is always a balance between;

  • Poverty and hunger, conflict and displacement, and development and resources.
  • Identified communities, families and individuals whom our local volunteers have brought to our attention as deserving.
  • The ability and capacity of the teams to deliver successfully, on time, and in accordance with Islamic jurisprudence.

We understand we will never get the balance right. But Insha'Allah, each year Muslim Futures' aim and intention is to select those countries and communities where fresh meat is considered a luxury, where the local community cannot afford to purchase meat during the year, and ALWAYS where we can quickly reach the poor, needy and vulnerable communities, typically zakat-eligible, that we serve.

That's because every country that we could feasibly distribute Qurbani in has a 'most needy' community. We find it is unfair to prioritise one community over another, and especially when the available livestock in a country is in such short supply that prices are raised above a level of affordability for many of our supporters.

So we look at the issue in a different way. We offer options across all price points, in a range of locations based on a selection of criteria as noted previously. Amongst these options will always be a 'budget' option in a country that has a severe need for your support. This option is considered by us as the best compromise between need, local prices and affordability for the donor. This year, we consider these options to be Malawi and Pakistan.

And don't forget, if you prefer to offer your Qurbani in another country, no problem! You can always select another country of your choice, and get in touch with us to place your order for a location that YOU consider the most needy!

In 2024, your Qurbani is more vital than ever in feeding those in need, due to famine, drought and soaring food prices.

Our local experts on the ground come from the communities we help. This makes them best placed to find those most in need. Before Eid ul-Adha, they are out in their local areas looking for the families that will benefit most from your sacrifice. Your Qurbani meat will be first distributed to widows and orphans, the sick and disabled, and then to other impoverished families.

And in locations such as Yemen, Bangladesh and the Turkish/Syrian border areas, your Qurbani will go to refugees and the displaced, communities suffering from conflict and disaster, sharing the blessings of Eid ul-Adha with those who need it the most.

Our Qurbani offers start at £45 but the price varies depending on the location and the animal. The cost includes:

  1. The price of the animal, always bought locally, inspected, verified and stored in humane and healthy conditions;
  2. The cost of taking care of the animal to ensure that it is up to the correct age and health standard for a Qurbani animal;
  3. The cost of transporting the animal to the location where it will be sacrificed;
  4. The sacrifice ritual, according to Islamic principles, correct butchering and cleaning;
  5. The cost of packing and distributing the Qurbani meat.

Muslim Futures does not subsidise any part of your Qurbani journey. You cover the full cost of choosing a worthy sacrifice, fulfilling your obligation, and distributing the meat to those in need.

When you give your Qurbani with Muslim Futures,

The essence of our Qurbani is our intention. Our Qurbani symbolises our surrender to Allah, subhanahu wa ta'āla, so we must choose a worthy sacrifice according to our means;

"It is neither their meat, nor their blood that will reach Allah; but what reaches Him is piety from you"   (Quran, 22:37)

We also urge you to follow the Prophet, sallallāhu 'alayhi wa’sallam’s practice of giving an additional Qurbani on behalf of the the Muslims who can not afford to do so, a merciful deed that allowed more people from his Ummah to share in the blessings of Eid ul-Adha.

To maximise your rewards, why not give an extra Qurbani - just like the Prophet , sallallāhu 'alayhi wa’sallam, did! This will not only be reviving a beautiful Sunnah, but it will also double your impact, feeding even more families across the joyous days of Eid ul-Adha.

"The Prophet, sallallāhu 'alayhi wa’sallam, sacrificed for the one who could not sacrifice from his Ummah, one who bore witness to the Oneness of Allah and [his] Prophethood"   (as narrated by al-Tabarani and Ahmad)

We recommend ordering your Prophetic Qurbani to the location you would most like to give towards, and then placing the order for an additional Qurbani for the same location, or one under conflict or in emergency, such as Yemen or Palestine. Find out more about the beauty of this Sunnah on our dedicated page here.

It is neither their meat, nor their blood that will reach Allah; but what reaches Him is piety from you  Quran (22:37)
