“Those who are merciful will be shown mercy by the Most Merciful. Be merciful to those on the earth and the One above the heavens will have mercy upon you.” (as narrated by Al-Tirmidhi)
A 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck south-eastern Turkey, during the early hours of 6th February 2023 whilst people were asleep. Dozens of aftershocks were felt afterwards. The epicentre was near the city of Gaziantep yet millions of people across Turkey, Syria, Lebanon & Cyprus felt the quake. On both sides of the Turkish/Syrian border, a huge area already racked with poverty and desperation and crowded with 4 million people displaced by the country’s long civil war, lives and communities were further destroyed. Many of those living in dilapidated and ruined conditions with little access to health care, found the hospitals across the region overwhelmed. Since the first hours after the tragedy struck, rescue teams raced to save people trapped beneath the rubble after hundreds of buildings collapsed in both countries.
Today, over two years later, recovery and rehabilitation efforts are ongoing, and our teams still need your support to deliver urgent emergency aid to those affected.
With winter fast approaching, families are at the mercy of the elements and with snowfall predicted in many of the affected regions, the teams in Turkey are working tirelessly to reach all those affected with hot meals and winter blankets. Give your Sadaqah and Zakat now to provide lifesaving essentials to our brothers and sisters in need.
Our colleagues on the ground are still supporting both local and the displaced Syrian refugees communities.
