Crisis in Afghanistan.
The people of Afghanistan NEED your help.

In the early hours of Monday 1st September 2025, a powerful magnitude 6 earthquake shook Afghanistan’s eastern provinces.

The initial shallow earthquake was centred 17 miles east of Jalalabad city in Nangarhar province at a depth of 5 miles. A short while later, another magnitude 4.5 tremor occurred near Basawul in Nangarhar. The areas affected are largely remote, mountainous regions with villages scattered all over the area, and some only accessible via helicopter.

To date it has been reported that over 1,400 people have been killed, over 3,000 injured & nearly 6,000 homes destroyed with complete and villages erased. Rescue operations are underway, but efforts have been hampered due to landslides blocking roads and access to affected areas. The full scale impact of the earthquake remains to be seen, with many fearful of the effects of repeated aftershocks and critical damage to vital infrastructure. With the number affected set to increase, the people of Afghanistan are in crucial need of support.

This tragedy comes just 2 years after the last devastating natural disaster  to hit Afghanistan. Over the course of just eight days in 2023, at least three deadly 6.3 magnitude earthquakes, and a series of strong aftershocks, struck Herat province in north-western Afghanistan.

Muslim Futures is working with our partners to  assess needs and deliver humanitarian assistance to those that need it most, especially families in particularly hard-to-reach communities. Our partners have already been able to reach hundreds of people with emergency relief, and with your support, we will be able to deliver vital aid to many hundreds more in the coming weeks to help the most vulnerable.

With the winter fast approaching, families affected by this disaster need continued support to access their basic necessities: many families have lost all of their possessions in the earthquakes. This means as well as emergency food, cash and shelter, they also need items like warm coats, boots, gloves, blankets and heating equipment to survive the freezing temperatures.

We urgently need donations to mobilise an emergency response in the hardest to reach areas. Thanks to your generous support, your donations help to provide emergency food and water, shelter and blankets. DONATE TODAY to deliver your kindness and support, so that we can support the most vulnerable.

" ....this is another devastating event in the ongoing humanitarian emergency in Afghanistan. Currently, 90% of the population is affected by poverty. This means many families in the most remote area of the country would have already been struggling to find food, employment, and stay out of debt. The World Bank last week warned that two thirds of Afghan families currently face significant challenges in maintaining their livelihoods. Now, they have been hit with one of the worst earthquake disasters we've seen in years.

"It will be extremely hard for survivors to meet their needs and start to rebuild their lives without support. Our team is monitoring the situation and working hard to deliver a quick and effective response. With our partners, we are mobilising emergency provisions, including cash, food and shelter support."

" We desperately need donations to ensure the most vulnerable can meet their needs at this difficult time, and that neighbouring communities have the resources they need to welcome those who have had to leave their homes in search of safety, and help them to rebuild."

Those who are merciful will be shown mercy by the Most Merciful. Be merciful to those on the earth and the One above the heavens will have mercy upon you.”  (as narrated by Al-Tirmidhi)
